Job Title: Laser-Optic Technician
Department: GIA Laboratory
City: Carlsbad, CA

Reports To: Laboratory Instrumentation Engineer

Primary Functions:

Responsible for maintenance, performance, and repair of laboratory equipment such as microscopes, illumination systems, spectrophotometers, optical systems, color grading boxes, measuring devices and other devices which are used in the grading process.

Requirements:

Minimum of Associate degree in a technology field with a minimum of three years experience in relevant electronics, semiconductor, opto-electronics, opto-mechanical industry. Formal education related to laser and optical systems preferred.

Testing and operation of lasers, motion control systems, and toxic gas handling equipment.

General technical problem solving skills associated with computer operated laser-optic systems.

Strong discipline and adherence to change control and safety measures are vital.

Possesses strong time management skills, excellent English language communication skills, both written and verbal.

Very skilled in class IV excimer laser-optic systems.

Strong ability to work independently with little or no direction.

Mastery of assembly and troubleshooting processes involving optical components, lasers, laser cavities, excimer lasers, inspection of optical components, cleaning of optical components, and laser optical system alignment.

Well developed dexterity associated with handling and cleaning extremely sensitive optical coatings, lenses, mirrors, and windows.

Mastery of relevant testing equipment for measuring laser pulse energy, pulse width, repetition rate, voltage, current, gas pressure, dose, and laser spot size and profile.

Mastery in precision mechanical component assembly including gas lines, fittings, filters, regulators, valves, optical mounts, and all associated hand tools.

Mastery of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, (Excel, Access, Power Point, and Word;) Lab-View software a plus.

Mastery in reading electrical and mechanical schematics including interpreting mechanical, optical and electrical specifications using drawings and manuals.


Responsibilities:

Maintains, repairs, and tests corporate-owned laser-optical systems following strict adherence to procedures at various corporate locations world-wide.
Follows and enforces strict laser, gas, electrical, and mechanical safety procedures.

Sends out equipment for repair when in house repair will be not an option.

Work with engineering and management to meet operational objectives and optimize problem solving capabilities.

Monitors and maintains spare parts inventory domestically.

Maintains and refines detailed work instructions and procedures for troubleshooting and repair of laser optical systems.

Maintains laser-system journals including system history, status, serial, and part numbers of each component contained within each system.

Writes and distributes laser-optical system repair reports and operational status to staff members.

Communicates effectively, gets along with coworkers and management, and deals with others effectively and professionally under pressure.

Travel domestically and internationally as required.
